Dundee Albert Institute

Dundee McManus Galleries

Albert Square before renovation (above) is dominated by the McManus Galleries - formerly the Albert Institute, said to be the largest memorial to the husband of Queen Victoria outside London .  As well as a statue of Queen Victoria, a copy of the Robert Burns statue in New York City's Central Park is also in Albert Square (right) - PHOTOs Malcolm McCrow

Robert Burns statue Central Park New York
"Robert Burns was born in Ayr, and now he sits in Albert Square . . . "  . . . but only after first appearing in Central Park, New York City. (above left).  The statue was a gift of Scottish-Americans to the City of New York. The Dundee Burns statue later acquired by Dundee is a half price copy of the one in Central Park and there are a further two near identical copies, one in Dunedin (right) and the other on the Thames Embankment in London. Sculpted: 1880 Sculptor: Sir John Steell 1804-1891.   PHOTOs Malcolm McCrow
